Sorry for the silence the last few days. On Wednesday afternoon I was instructed to drop everything and catch a flight. A crisis had come up at a client site, and I was the right guy to fix it. A couple of long days later and I'm back home, but I need to fly out again on Monday and spend the entire next week away from home again.
One good thing about this business trip compared to others that I've done is that I am allowed to return to my hotel after a reasonable day of work - some trips (with different employers) have seen me work sixteen hour days on site, but this is a lot saner. The upside to this is that I have the evenings to myself, and can pretend - just for a little while - that things are normal.
I have a decent business laptop - it ran World of Warcraft well when I tried a year ago - and so I'm hoping to get some gaming in each night. Unfortunately, although I bring a mouse, I'm stuck with a laptop keyboard and a 17" monitor so I wouldn't want to play anything like a shooter.
If you know of a game that was released in the past couple of years that you think would be perfect for this sort of scenario, then please drop me a line in the comments; I'd love a few suggestions.

Torchlight.
You should be able to enjoy it, Even if it had been released just a couple months ago.
It need low resources and there's even a "notebook" mode in it's settings.
Is a game like Diablo. A dungeon crawler that is well done, in the waiting of diablo3 is perfect.
I've blown through Torchlight once, but a second play through is a possibility. If I do it thru Steam I should be able to access my shared stash from my first time thru even due to the new cloud-based saves.
Just play Warcraft, but do non graphic intensive stuff like AH farming, crafting, or whatever.
Sometimes it is just the social aspect of the game that I enjoy. I just like to log into vent, and stand around in Orgrimmar talking to guildmates all night.
If I hadn't quit WoW back in May that's exactly what I would do =) Heck, I'd probably even try to level an alt or something.
I agree. Torchlight is perfect for laptop gaming.
Runes of Magic ;)
Ten Ton Hammer rated it as one of the best running games on a notebook.
But I'm sure results may vary.
Sins of a Solar Empire is fantastic and has very modest requirements. Pick it up on Impulse for cheap.
I recommend something like Civ 4 or Sim City. The games will run on anything, and they're great for replaying. They're easy to pick up or drop off in the middle of a game, and there's always new stuff to try.
Download MAME and have fun with some retrogaming and old glories of the past that you enjoyed years ago

I used to own this game,. played thru once, and then lent it to a friend who lost it. Until now it's been super rare and thus expensive to replace - I'm thinking I may pick it up.

Wow, you got some fun out of Arcanum? I must have missed the good bits. It's not often that I toss an actual boxed game into the garbage, but I did with that one.
Whoa? Really - I absolutely LOVED Arcanum when I played that, and have hated the fact that my copy has been lost. I've periodically scoured the house to try to relocate it.
I'll almost certainly be replaying it with a fresh set of eyes soon....
